That is true and even if they speak German in Austria Schwarzenegger Terminator I’ll Be Back shirt very fact is important to point out when we talk about accents. As an American, even growing up with German grandparents, the accents sound very similar to me. Germans tend to sound like pissed off Austrians to me. Or just constantly angry in general. But that probably has a lot to do with my grandparents LOL. In older Arnie movies he says “back” more normally, but in later movies he began to parody himself which is the reason the line is in so many movies in the first place.

The “Bach” thing was a joke to exaggerate his accent by impersonators. As time went by, Arnie embraced it and embellished it when he said it, like how Christopher Walken became a caricature of himself as time went by. He didn’t always sound nearly as exaggerated. I’m a native German Schwarzenegger Terminator I’ll Be Back shirt , I agree with you, I remember a distinct southern german/Austrians type of accent when he said that now it sounds almost like perfect English to me, which is weird, as I used to be way worse in understanding english than I am now, so if anything I should have had a harder time recognizing an accent than now.

Schwarzenegger’s accent is often parodied by laying on a much thicker gloss of stereotypical German than he really has. (Actually, nearly all imitations of German-accented people do Schwarzenegger Terminator I’ll Be Back shirt — a real German/Austrian accent doesn’t actually sound even remotely like what you hear from actors playing Nazis in Hollywood war movies.) People would say “bach” instead of “back” when imitating the line, because that’s about the only way to actually kraut it up enough to make clear that you’re aiming for Schwarzenegger-in-the-Terminator and not just “hey, BRB”. Doesn’t mean the way people said it in the playground was ever the way he really said it in the movie, though.
